Brief Answer:
Dementia to consider. Read below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to the "Ask a Doctor" service.

I have read your question.

These MRI findings justify the problems with memory, attention, and focus.

Besides post-viral infection, other possible explanations for these MRI findings and symptoms, should be evaluated.

These include dementia and unstable blood pressure.

In this case, it is necessary to be evaluated by a Neurologist for a better understanding of the condition and possible treatment ways.

I hope you found the answer helpful.

Thanks for your speedy response! It's my understanding that mild parenchymal volume loss can be age-related. Is it a normal finding at the age of 55, or would it typically be seen at a later age?

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again and thanks for the follow-up question.

At that age is very rare a bargain volume loss, that's why other possible conditions mentioned before should be evaluated.

Hope this helps.

Take care.

Thanks for your explanation. These issues appeared immediately after the COVID infection at the end of 2022, and not before. The MRI was done this month. What does "bargain volume loss" mean, please, and what recommendations for treatment would you have?

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Since the issues appeared after the COVID-19 infection, it is possible that the "bargain volume loss" or in other words widespread loss of the brain volume, was caused by impairment of the brain supply with oxygen.

There are no specific treatments for this condition, the aim should be to maintain a correct supply of the brain with oxygen and stable blood pressure to prevent progression.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
