Question: 40 some yrs ago I had a catatonic period. Today I felt like I was slipping into it again after my wife and I had a blowup.It felt like I was just giving up and wanted to escape into myself. I need guidance.

First of all I like to inform you that it is probably exaggerated fear of catatonia rather than catatonia itself. As per the available literature catatonia can not be predicted and occurs without knowledge of individual.

It is true that catatonia is more common among elderly individuals but it does not mean that everybody can slip into catatonia with some form of stress.

In my opinion there is need to manage stress rather than worrying about catatonia. The stress management should be sufficient enough to avoid any form of untoward even in your life after the blowup with your spouse.
