Is It Critically High To Have GGT Level As 92?

Hi Dr. Charles, my GGT level is 92. above the reference range. Is it critically high? My AST/SGOT is 34.2 and my Alkaline Phosphatase is 102. At the lab they took the blood sample after one hour from my dinner meal. Will be that O.K. or I should be fasting before they take the blood sample? I am a little bit over weight and I don't drink alcohol but I eat lots of fatty food. Please can you guide me how to lower my GGT.

Thanks,
Shady

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Shady,

Raised levels of Liver enzymes like GGT can be attributed to diseases of the liver, biliary system, and pancreas.
Given the history that you do not drink alcohol, the risk of alcoholic liver disease is ruled out.
However, a raised GGT levels associated with deranged Lipid profile (Overweight) acts as a risk factor for Cardiovascular disease.
GGT can be lowered by eating foods rich in protein, fiber & beta-carotene.

To rule out any discrepancy related to the results & the timing of samples, it is better to give a fasting blood sample & get the test repeated.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
