What Is The Treatment For Thyroid Nodules?

Hi, I am a 62 yr. old Blk. female. On May, 2012. I fell down 8 steps in my apt., while at ER, it was discovered that I have nodules on my thyroid. Since that time I haven't received anby treatments, x-ray, scans etc. I am waiting for an appt. to be seen. Is this long wait okay to see a specialist?. My male cousin was also diagnosed with the same condition & he is waiting to have his thyroid removed. What should be my immediate concerns?. My MD. advised me not to worry, but since that time, my hair is falling out, I dont sleep, obese, & I am also depressed.Thank You.

hi,
Thank you for posting your query in Health Care Magic, i understand your concern.
Having nodules in the thyroid needs to be evaluated at the earliest, Considering your age it could be goitre or even malignant condition until and unless ruled out otherwise.
So i suggest you to meet a Endocrinologist or a surgeon to get a scan , and also your hormone levels checked.
It may need surgery , you need not be depressed about it . It does have treatment and its good that it has been noticed now so that it can be evaluated.
your hair falling out and lack of sleep could be symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
Immediate concerns should involve getting a thyroid profile done including TSH, T3, and T4.
Hope this helps, Write back to me if you need further assistance .
Wish you good health.
