Sinus Problem

hi there, I've had a cold/flu for over a week now and one of my sinuses is quite blocked and letting off a funny 'smell' in my nose. It's getting better but still not very pleasant. It's also accompanied with a foul taste in my throat. Is it nessecary to see a doctor, or will nasal spray and decongestants from the pharmacy work ok?

If this is your first time with the above symptoms, and if you are feeling better, you may not take any medication besides plain steam inhalation. You may also try over the counter medication from your local pharmacy to relieve your nasal obstruction, provided that you do not suffer from any other major disease. If your sinusitis and post nasal drip continues, you may need to see a doctor for further investigation and treatment.

Hello,Welcome.Although your history of complaints is just a week old you must consult a ENT specialist as you are having bacterial infection, since you are complaining of foul smell, for the proper course of antibiotics and steam inhalation.Don't take the medicines of your own.Good luck.

Hi Jamie,
nasal blockage is very common during Flu, but as you say its been over a week and foul smelling discharge in the throat, you might require a course of Antihistamines & antibiotics apart from Steam inhalation
