Artery: The blood vessels that carry blood from the heart. Vein: The blood vessels that carry blood towards the heart. There's the aorta which takes oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body by branching off into arteries and atrerioles and capillaries, and there's the pulmonary artery which takes deoxygenated blood to the lungs. So I believe there are two arteries. The pulmonery artery, I think is the only artery that does not carry oxygenated blood. All other arteries in the body do. This is purely from memory of highschool bio...many years ago. I hope I'm right.
