How To Treat Presence Of E.coli In Stools Of An Infant?

Hi,

My son is 6 month old. We noticed he passing motion soon after a feed since last wednesday. We got a routine test & culture of his stool done. Hi routine report howed 2-3 /hpf fr Stolol RBC

and trace for mucuc & reduing substance. The culture report showed E.Coli. Please advice.

Hi

If it is his routine that he passes stools after each feeds, nothing needs to be done as it is just a gastrocolic reflex.

If it is of recent onset and the stools are watery with redness in the perianal region, then you must stop formula milk/ cow's milk. Continue with breast feeds alone. You may also try lactose free milk like ISOMIL in such a case.

E.coli is a normal gut bacteria and has no significance in this case.
