Lot Of Swelling In The Elbow. History Of Insertion Of 2 Metal Plates And 12 Screws In Forearm Due To Broken Bones. No Fever. Suggestions?

In December my 14 yr. old son had 2 metal plates & 12 screws put in his forearm after breaking both bones. Now May and he had all of the sudden has a lot of swelling at what looks to be at the end of the plates near his elbow. No fever or any other symptoms. I plan on call his orthopedic surgeon tomorrow. Any ideas on what would cause this?

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The sudden appearance of a lot of swelling with pain is a worrisome finding. This could be suggestive of an infection in the area. You need to get it physically examined for proper treatment.
