How To Treat High Cholesterol?

Hi. My Daughter just turned 24, is very thin, but just found out she has high cholesterol. It is 220. Do you know of anything that might cause that? Doctors are suspicious of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in our l?ittle grandson and also in my husband s brother. Also, fatty liver disease is running on his side of the family. On my side is hypertension, strokes, heart attacks and cancer. I appreciate your opinion.

Hello
Your daughter is having high cholesterol 220 mg /dl . You didn't mentioned the lipid profile as sometimes we have seen that HDL ( good cholesterol ) is high , while LDL( bad cholesterol ) is low . Also didn't mention VLDL & TRIGLYCERIDE values.
As you mentioned that there is a risk on both maternal and paternal side .
The age of patient is very young , risky on both side.
You should be worried but not too much.
Your daughter's cholesterol is not that high to be very worried . Your daughter may easily get back normal range.
I see similar cases amongst young peoples who visit my clinic .
In the first meeting , I advise my patient to go life style modifications for 3 months.
I retest them again after 3 months & if they continue to be in high range I advise them to take medicine.
1 High fiber diet , green leafy vegetable fruits .
2 Cut down the processed food , white bread , doughnuts , white sugar pizza should be completely avoided.
3 A 40 minute physical activities every day morning walk or evening walk ora visit to a gym or swimming pool.
Due to high risk ( in both families ) , this is a concerning . Your daughter need to investigated with E K G & echocardiogram to isolate the case.
I would recommend your daughter to consult a cardiologist and get his opinion.
In your daughter case must consult cardiologist every years for just safety.
Good luck.
