Yes. My Father Was Transported To The Hospital With Blood

yes.
My father was transported to the hospital with blood hem 4.4 was transfused with 3 units dx tests colonoscopy reveals diverticulitis and endoscopy negative no evidence of bleeding. after transfusion yesterday his level went to 9 and today back down to 7 and was transfused again with 2 units. they now think it may be cirrhosis of the liver . How can it be because he does not drink not even socially and does not do drug, except prescribed medications for his heart problem. I have to tell you he looked pretty yellow before going to the hospital. He also have a cardiac history and fluid built up in the lower extremities and abdomen. He is on anticoagulant and diuretic. I think more blood test for liver disease or CT scan or u/s is needed for a definite diagnosis of cirrhosis.
What do you think is happening? Please help me understand.
