I was diagnosed wih aldosteronism variety at age 59, I am now 79. My hypertention MD advised me I inherited this condition and my children (5) could also. One of my sons age 49 now has extremely high BP 171/105 and is being treated with valsartan and amloditine and his pressure has reduced somewhat. The most significant test that clarified my condition was a 24 hr urine collection and this has not been done for my son. The meds I have been on since diagnosis are: spironolactone and metroprolol. My pressure remains lower than normal limits. (I am a retired RN)
Yes, it can be a hereditary disease. Hyperaldosteronism is a hormonal disorder due excessive production of hormone aldosterone that leads to high blood pressure. It is most common causes include a tumor in the adrenal gland, over activity of adrenal gland, chronic diseases of the heart, liver or kidney. It can also be an inherited condition resulting in high blood pressure in children and young adults.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
