Can Nan Pro I Be Given For The Infant Along With The Antibiotics?

Dear Doctor,

My baby is 6 months old now. I am giving him breastfeed as well as Nan 1 pro when he was four and a half months old as I am a working woman. I give him 100 ml of nan1 three times a day.

Along with that, I am giving him mashed rice, carrot and potato mix, raggi mix, banana powder mix, chikku, apple and pear juices. (He is been on this diet from last one and a half month)

Since last 4 days he is producing greenish loose motion frequently (11-12 times a day) in a small quantity.

He was taken Hep-B vaccination 3 days back. Since then he is suffering from fever. He has cough and mucus in chest also. Doctor has prescribed him antibiotic.

1.     Can I give him Nan 1 pro along with antibiotic medicine?

2.     Will he have dehydration problem? Should we give him any water, medicine as well for precaution to dehydration?

3.     Should I stop giving him other feeds (like rice, raggi etc)?

Please advise on a priority as I am getting tensed seeing his condition.

Thanks in advance

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
You are taking very good care of your child just keep it up, I would like to advise you that try to keep the child away from the unnecessary medicine, the greenish stool is just nothing to worry, this will be alright soon, the dehydration is very different matter and you must have taken it in other sense, when there is loss of fluid from the body because of any pathological or physiological means then that is called dehydration, and I guess that is not the same thing here with your child, so just nothing to worry about this, hope this information helps you, have nice day.

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.
I can understand your concern.

Yes you can give that along with antibiotic medicine.

Monitor for signs of dehydration.
They include
1. Decreased skin turgor
2. Increasing thirst.
3. Sunken eyes.
4. Irritability.
5. Drowsiness.
6. Decreasing passage of urine.
Oral rehydration solution or any other solution containing salt and sugar should be given.
Probiotics and Zinc prescribed by your doctor will be useful.

In case of further dehydration the child requires Intravenous fluids.

There is no need to stop all those other foods like rice etc. Normal intake of water as required by your kid may suffice.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
