Thanks for contacting HCM

I am sorry to hear about your mother with recent low sodium, potassium and dehydration. This is a vey common problem during the summer months when we have excessive heat. Elderly patients do not have the same ability to sense when they are becoming dehydrated. They don't get thirsty and drink water like younger people. It is real important to keep available fluids during the summer to prevent dehydration.

Your other question was missing her doses of Coumadin the cause of the dehydration and low sodium and the short answer is no. Coumadin is a blood thinner use for atrial fibrillation or deep venous thrombosis to prevent further clots from forming and do not interact with electrolytes.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again for you questions
