Hello Jessica,
I can understand your concern, however the atherosclerosis is not directly caused by your hypothyroidism. It would have helped me to know your TSH levels to guide you better. Hypothyroidism does cause deranged lipid profile and high LDL cholesterol can be a reason for atherosclerosis. Now how much was your initial TSH and what treatment are you taking for the same and has the medication helped you to control Thyroid levels are the things that I want to know. If TSH is normal then it cannot be the reason for your atherosclerosis.
Atherosclerosis may happen due to many reasons like, Familial Dyslipidemia, sedentary lifestyle, Diet rich in saturated fats, Smoking, High Blood pressures.
So try to discuss with your physician about other causes if TSH is normal.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
