With No Brain Injury And On Ventilation How Long Will It Take To Wake Up?

HI, my uncle has been ventilated for the past two days, they stopped his sedation about 18 hours ago and he is not waking up, there is no brain injury, but he has an infection somewhere and the doctors cannot work out where. Can it take time for people to wake up?

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that it may take up to a couple of days to wake up, from sedation when there is no brain injury.

You should know that sedation time depends on individual metabolism.

So, you should be patient and wait.

If he doesn't wake up, I would recommend performing an EEG and a brain MRI.

Hope to have been helpful!
Best wishes, Dr. Aida
