Hi,

Clofranil is an antidepressant drug that causes weight gain as a side effect. Weight gain occurs basically due to water retention and increased appetite.

Action of drug may start after 6 weeks and peaks by 3 to 4 months. Side effects such as weight gain may be reversed in the same time.

But such weight loss may be minimal compared with the weight gained previously. A regular balanced diet and physical activity is essential to assure expected weight loss.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
