Will The Blood Clot In Extraction Site Delay Healing?

5 days ago, I got #18 pulled out. Over this short time period, I developed white tissue over the extraction site but it came off while brushing my teeth. I still see the blood clot is intact, but will this delay healing as I thought the white tissue was granulation tissue and can I still smoke or am I at risk again?,

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you had extraction of upper last molar tooth and after that there is formation of clot and white layer which is symptom of rapid healing as it is naked bone formation which is whitish in color.

Clot got dislodged after repeated touching is a thing you need not to worry about as it is normal. It will not delay healing.Try touching socket area with tongue.

I would suggest you not to smoke as it will delay healing. Try to avoid smoke till the time socket would not heal properly as it will cause inflammation and can leads to formation of dry socket.

Maintain basic hygiene. Follow all the instructions given by dentist. Do warm saline gargles three times a day.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain after 5 days if the healing has started properly then you cannot see any red blood clot and what is present is the granulation tissue which is formed when the healing process is initiated via blood clot forming cells and tissues and therefore attains normal anatomy of the jaw..

If you have dislodged the white granulation tissue there must be only raw and empty extraction socket left behind and you should immediately consult your dentist and get a clinical evaluation done and in case if the healing tissue is dislodged there are will be formation of a painful condition known as DRY SOCKET..

In case of dislodged healing tissue irrigation of the socket with hydrogen peroxide, betadine and saline followed by placement of Zinc oxide eugenol dressing is done to initiate healing along with antibiotics and painkillers to avoid infection and pain..

You should strictly avoid smoking as it delays healing and also loosening of clot occurs due to formation of negative pressure in mouth while sucking the cigerattee..

Hope this information helps..
