Will Lip Cut Of 1/4 Inch Need Stitching?

My son bit his lip and the wound is gaping with a purple tissue hanging out. It has stopped bleeding and the cut appears to be about 1/4 inch. Does he need stitches or will it heal on its own? I understand that mouth wounds heal quickly, but perhaps this is beyond that point.

Thanks for posting your query to HCM.
As the wound is gaping, sutures need to be given for proper healing and minimum scar formation.
I would suggest you to visit an oral surgeon who will do proper examination and necessary treatment.
Hope my answer will help you.
