Will Inserting Filter Keep The Thrombus In Place Of Saphenous Vein?

My sister was just diagnosed with a thrombus in the great saphenous vein. The Dr. Is talking about inserting a filter to keep the thrombus in place. What is the procedure to accomplish this , how long does it take ? Is this an outpatient procedure? What are the risks?

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM .
Read and reviewed your query and health concerns.
You seem to suffer from -DVT of great Saphenous(GS-Vein) Vein with risk of Femoral Vein extension and resultant pulmonary embolism.Filters carry risk of blockages and thrombus formation at the filter sites.

Options Suggested-

Hence discuss with your doctors, for the options of-PCDT(Percuatneous-Catheter Directed Thrombolysis)
and PMT(Per-cutaneous Mechanical Thrombolysis/ELT(Endovenous Laser Thrombolysis)/ RFA-induced Thrombolysis of this thrombus in GS-Vein,which would reduce the risks with the filter.

These options could be used only if the disease is limited to GS-Vein and only if Femoral Extensions could be curtailed with benefits of reducing risks of recurring thrombosis/or extension of thrombosis in to IVC(Inferior Vena Cava).
In the given scenario, with absence of further information, above reply would help you to plan further treatment in your complex health issues.

Hope this reply would help you to resolve the health issues with help of doctors attending on you.
