Will Dermatimyositis Causes Visible Appearance Of Veins On Hands?

I am a 25 year old, bi racial female who has suffered from dermatimyositis since the age of 12. I just noticed the veins in my hands, as being more visible and almost causing my hands to have a dirty green appearance. Is this something to be concerned about?

Dear patient,

Thanks for your concerns. Particularly in thin females, the veins in the dorsum (opposite side of the palm) of the hand can be quite prominent, and do not translate any medical problem; these veins usually run along the subcutaneous fat tissue, so you can imagine that in slim people who have less fat and particularly those who exercise their upper body these can be prominent. A symmetric, similar appearance on both hands should be reassuring. If there are any other associated symptoms such as pain, difficulty in movements of the hand, etc then it should be looked more into.

Hope this helps, wish you the best,
