Will Avoiding Hip Surgery While Having No Cartilage, hamper Daily Activities?

I would like to know , if I don t have hip surgery, knowing that I have no cartilage left in my hip, will my daily function worsen or just stay the same? I have had two knees replaced and one hip replaced . I am eighty yrs old , I prefer not to through another operation if I can ovoid it. I am worried about the anesthetic used and I could have a problem with recovery, as I have heard older people possibly might notregain all their senses. Thank you. YYYY@YYYY

Hello and thank you for using HCM.

I understand your concern. All things considered, you are right to weigh the pros and cons of undergoing this surgery. With no cartilage left, your hip condition will continue to deteriorate and it will be affecting your motility and daily activities at a gradual but sure pace. How fast this will happens, depends on your daily movements i.e. the more you move and walk, the more friction between your joint surfaces will occur, the more wearing in your hip joint.
On the other hand, it is understandable that you do not wish to undergo anesthesia and the recovery process, which can be quite challenging at your age. Hence, this is a decision of choosing the lesser evil which ultimately is up to you.

Wishing you all the best.
