Will Another Stimulant Bring A Vocal Tic For A 6-year-old Diagnosed With ADHD?

My 6 yr old Grandson was diagnosed with ADHD. He started Focalin XR 5mg two weeks ago. Everything was going great, focus was wonderful. Then, three days ago he started a vocal tic. Like a cough turning into a little yelp. Doctor told my daughter today to stop the meds. We are to allow 5 days to get it out of his system, then I guess they will start a different one. My question is, will another stimulant also bring on this tic? He s never had anything like this before.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

This does not mean that other medication will also give vocal tic to your boy. You should wait till the doctor decides the right moment and the right medication to restart the treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Elona Dashi, General & Family Physician
