Will A Blackish Bruise On The Thigh Heal On Its Own Or Needs To Be Drained?

My friend had a blackish bruise on his thigh. It has been two weeks and the color is changing. However, he now has a large softball size fluid pocket under the bruise. It is soft to the touch. Will this go away on it's own or likely need to be drained?
