Will Benadryl Help With The Swelling Of My Tonsils?

Will benadryl help with the swelling of my tonsils? Yesterday evening I arrived home from work and I didn t feel bad or have any indication of any sickness; after a little bit of time laying in bed I felt my tonsils swelling, [(which has happened before, usually sore and I ll drink Theraflu and take either Nyquil/Dayquil or Robitussin(I m not sure if the spelling)]. I checked the mirror and sure enough they were swollen, but this time no irritating soreness. This morning (Saturday), it surprisingly hadn t gone away and eventually started to bother me because I constantly felt I was swallowing my uvula or something. I gargled vinegar water and salt water, which the salt water helped for all of two seconds. The only relief is from eating ice cream, which is the only thing I ve eaten today. I ve had three small one serving single cups. And i just want the swelling to go down. I m just now starting to feel this itching tingling in my throat by my tonsils. And when it feels like my uvula outta stick behind the tonsil I feel a dull, I don t know how to describe it, ache? I guess? Everything I ve read says it s Tonsillitis and indicated chest pain may occur. So will benadryl help with the swelling? Can I take Aleve for the irritation? Will Theraflu do anything for me? How long can/will this last? When do I know I should see a doctor?
