Why My Skin Gets Darker?

Hi I have a preemies who was born fair skin and started to get darker only after she was put under the light as they said she had jaundice. Each day I noticed she would get darker and darker. Now my baby is almost 3 month ( a couple days gestation) and her face has splotchy light spots on her face part of her ears are getting lighter also but her body is darker. Her hands is partially light and at the tips darker. I have other children who were born full term and were all fair skin when born and got a little tanned due to sun...i understand babies can get darker as they get older but I m concerned because she is getting light in patches now....can someone please help me understand what could be going on? Thank you for your help!!!

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,

It may be pityriasis alba, in which light patches occur on face and trunk. The condition is benign and of unknown cause. It may be due to sun exposure or nutritional deficiencies. Consult the dermatologist for the perfect diagnosis and proper treatment. Apply tacrolimus ointment 0.03% on the hypo pigmented patches. Avoid sun exposure and give enough nutrition. It may recover in a few months.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
