Why My Cholesterol Levels Are So High Even After Taking Medicines?

Hi,

I am 46 years old. I tested for Lipid Profile in Aug 13. My Bad cholesterol was 203.8 and good cholesterol was 49. My VDL calculated was 24.2. So total cholesterol was 277. I was prescribed a medicine (Roseday 10 mg - 1 tablet every night after dinner for three months). I took the medication for three months and then after a couple of weeks (15 weeks after first test) I again went for Lipid profile test.

I did Lipid profile test today. My Bad cholesterol is 178.2 and good cholesterol is 39. My VDL calculated is 24.8. So total cholesterol is 242.

I am a bit worried that my cholesterol levels are still high even after taking medicines. I don't have any other issue (My BP is normal, my sugar levels are perfect). I don't smoke neither do I drink (not even beer).

Will you please suggest why my Cholesterol levels are so high even after taking medicines.

Regards,
Kamal

Dear friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

The cause is most likely hereditary (inherited).
Cholesterol can still be high, in spite of diet and exercise
The dose of the drug has to be adjusted
The drug should be taken for life
The treating doctor may suggest further / may need more investigations to find out...

Take care
Good luck
