Why Is My Penis Tip Inflamed And Red?

My penis tip is inflamed and red. I tested negative for STIs twice over a span of 2 months. I had a urologist look at it and they prescribed anti-fungal cream. I used it for about a month and nothing changed. The doctor said to follow up back in 6 months and just use water to clean my penis. Its been lookijg the same for a while now.

Hello,

Avoid use of shower gels, soaps, or chemicals present in condoms and lubricants. Take care of your hygiene, poor hygiene is a cause of such symptoms that you are experiencing. Clean your private area properly. Not washing off the soap completely may also trigger fungal infection. Avoid aggressive sexual intercourse. Avoid any type of sexual activity for a couple of days while you are being treated.

You can take a course of Fluconazole orally. You can apply ointment clotrimazole on the affected area. If it is fungal infection, it will go away. You can apply a thin layer of ointment Acyclovir on the affected area. In case of sexually transmitted infection, it will help to clear it. You may have to take antibiotics or antivirals orally if needed in case repeat STD tests show positive report. Get clinically examined by a urologist to rule out or detect eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis and lichen planus.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
