Why Is My Child Having Stomach Pain And Blood In Urine?

MY six yr old just informed me that his pee is pink when he goes and it kind of hurts but not bad so I told him to try and go pee for me so he did and the water was not pink but I saw one bloody almost fleshy looking chunk maybe half the size of a pea at the bottom of the toilet and a smaller red dot also sunk but not all the way at the bottom...we got on the internet and started asking him questions he has no pains he feels fine only when he pees it "kinda" hurts...then he laid down and came out and said his stomach hurts but I feel that might be his nerves or something like that cause he was shy about it and quivvery lipped when we talked about this whole thing!???

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi my dear,

The problems your son is having while peeing is a possible urinary tract infection. He is complaining of stomach hurts which might be related to infections of the urinary tract involving bladder (cystitis).

I'd suggest to get him checked by a pediatrician and run some tests:
- urine analysis
- complete blood profile
- abdominal ultrasound

as he might need to start a course of antibiotics and kidney stones should be excluded.

Furthermore, if you son is not circumcised, please consult with the pediatrician when to schedule his circumcision.

Usually, uncircumcised boys do have frequent UTI which resolves only with circumcision.

Please keep his penis well cleaned especially inside by pulling the skin back and apply warm water or saline to clean it at home.

All the best!
