Why Is Morphine Absent In The Drug Drug Test?

I recently took an annual drug test that is required by my doctor. I take valium, 10 mg 3x per day; Hydrocodone 10/325 5 x per day and Morphine sulfate ER 60 mg 6 tablets per day, 2 tablets 3 times a day. I take it like clockwork, and have for years. After this drug test I was told that NO MORPHINE showed up in the test. Is there anything that could cause that other than someone checking the wrong box on the form or simply screwing up the test? I am befuddled, dumbstruck and hurt by this. Thanks, Alan

Hi,

The concentration of a substrate (opioid in your case) in a sample is dependent upon a drug’s individualized absorption and metabolism rates as well as on the drug’s pharmacokinetics.

Urine is the most commonly used specimen in drug testing as the concentration of drug metabolites in the urine tends to be higher than those of serum samples.

Diluted urine e.g samples given after drinking a large amount of water can cause a false negative test due to a low concentration of the metabolite in urine.

An individual variation might also be there based on metabolic genotype (e.g., ultrafast metabolizers) causing negative result in the urine sample collected late after consumption of tablet.

In any case, test can be repeated, if there is doubt.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
