Why Is Levothyroxine Prescribed While Suffering From Low Thyroid Level?

My thyroid test results were 6.16 with a goal of 5. My doc prescribed levothyroxine 25 and when I looked this med up it is said to raise thyroid hormone levels in people with hypothyroidism . Should I raise this question with my doc or am I confuse Do?

Hi,

I think you refer to TSH test when you say thyroid test. If TSH is elevated you may be suffering from hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism is treated with Levothyroxine to substitute the lack of T4 and T3 in your body. You can send me a photo of the tests you have done for further evaluation.
