Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Your son has an infection caused by a virus that can cause lesions in the mouth. It is important to keep him well hydrated and to ensure that he is able to breathe without excessive effort, sweating, changes of skin or lip color. The cough in an uncomplicated infection will usually subside within one week. If the nasal passages are congested the noise can be transmitted and can sound as though there is a rumbling sound in the chest. It is important to keep the nasal passages open since infants like to breathe through their noses. Nasal saline preparations for infants are useful. Follow his temperature and if he is febrile or has worsening symptoms, or respiratory compromise, it is best to seek further advice from your pediatrician.
