Why Have Tests Results Been Positive For Herpes Simplex Virus For Over Two Years?

I was diagnosed with genital herpes simplex virus two years ago. I had some sort of outbreak and the doctors took one look and said I had herpes. On July 28th 2023 I took a blood test and my herpes came back at a value of .55 negative. Is it possible after two years to receive a false negative on a blood test? Or did my doctors absolutely mentally kick me down?

Hello,

Positive test results for herpes simplex (HSV-1) means that you either have or have been infected with the said virus, HSV-1. Herpes simplex negative test result is indicative that no herpes antibodies or virus were detected in the sample taken. A negative test does not rule out infection, you may get a repeat test done with sensitive tests like viral culture or PCR.

Herpes simplex may not have been present in the sample taken or the blood taken at the time of testing. HSV-1 is not curable, by symptomatic treatment the outbreaks are kept under control. Once infected with HSV-1 the infection remains in the body for a lifetime. It may show outbreaks of cold sores or fever blisters from time to time. Maintain healthy weight and take food or medicine that helps boost immunity. Do regular walking and exercises.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
