Why Does My Urethra Itch?

why does my urethra itch, but only when there is pin pointed pressure? the only time urination burn is after i have "scratched" my urethra. i wouldn't say scratch, more like a gentle rub as you would do for a bug bite. when i rub my urethra, it occasionally makes me have to urinate, but rarely in normal amounts, usually smaller amounts. the itching only occurs toward the base of my penis. moving further to the end of the urethra (away from my body), the itch becomes less and less noticeable. i did have unprotected sex with my girlfriend, however, she was a virgin, so i am assuming that an STD is out of the question. what could be causing this?

Hi there,
Thank you for your query on healthcare magic.
From your symptoms, you may have a type of fungal infection. It could be Candida or Tinea cruris. If the itching extends into the groin, it could be tinea cruris, however, itching around the tip of the urethra most likely indicates candidal infection. Also, this could be associated with urethral discharge. The urge to urinate is stimulated to some extent by rubbing the urethral region even in normal individuals so that is not something to bother about.
One more possibility is that of contact dermatitis such as with condom or lubricants.
If it is a fungal infection, you need to keep the area clean and dry and change underwear everyday. If symptoms do not improve or worsen, you may need antifungal cream.
Also look out for any possible allergy against condoms or lubricants.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for visiting healthcare magic.
