Why Does My VDRL Test Result Show Positive?

Hi Doctor, Iam Rahim. Am suffering from syphilis and had treated. My VDRL and FTA-Abs results are as follows: 17th may 2016- VDRL (Microflocculation)- Positive 17th may 2016- FTA-Abs - igG Ab s titer 1:40 and igM Ab s titer 1:5 On 31st May I took 2.4 million units of Benzathine penicillin IM injection by dermatologist and venerologist. On 17th june 2016- VDRL ( Met . Agglutination) in one lab- Negative On 21st june 2016- VDRL ( Microflocculation) in previous lab- Positive 21st june 2016- FTA-Abs - igG Ab s titer 1:20 and igM Ab s Is Absent. Please help me doctor, whether I am cured or not? Do I need to take another penicillin injection. Why the vdrl test is positive.? Please reply.

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it's perfectly normal to enjoy your life and decide for yourself when it comes to your life.

But if something significantly abnormal or other than usual is present, it needs to be evaluated as it can affect the vary life you want to spend at your own will.

You should get hormonal profile, ultrasound pelvis and gynecologist review to look for any hormonal cause of absent periods or structural abnormalities causing it.

As it can be part of other endocrine diseases. Rarely genetic studies may be needed too.

Duphastan is a synthetic hormone replacement therapy and should be used after work up of the cause and according to fresh hormonal profile.
