Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why Does A Catheter And Stent Required After A First Nuclear Stress Test?
I am 58 and i had my first nuclear stress test last week. I got a call saying that there was a small area of concern, but the Dr. doing the exercise part of the test said i did great and I had less than a 1% chance of a heart attack in the next two years . So i guess i dont know what is up , my regular Dr. said that they will be doing a cath and a stent. I am confused.. any help you can give me ?
Sometimes an abnormality is not seen acutely during the test. With later more careful review of the images, an abnormality may be detected. It sounds like this is what may have happened. Also, was it actually a doctor doing the exercise part or just a technician? A technician is not qualified to report any findings and should not have told you anything about the results. If an abnormality were detected with the later more careful readings, then the next step is to do a catheter study and apply a stent if an abnormality is confirmed. Disregard anything you were told while having the study. It was not accurate. Hope this answers your query.
