Why Do I Feel A Block In My Throat?

I am a singer and recently I haven t been able to sing properly. It feels like there is an obstruction in the way near the entrance to my throat (not anywhere in my mouth) and it makes my voice break while singing, and/or makes me cough. what could be wrong?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

People who sing regularly face this problem often. The vibrations of your vocal cords cause a small hematoma to form on your cord and this may fibrose/ form a polyp.

It can be diagnosed very simply using a scope and inspecting it. The treatment is usually to remove it. Alternatively, try resting your voice for a few days- avoid singing, avoid spicy food, gargle, drink hot water.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
