Why Did I Vomit Blood Under The Effect Of Alcohol?

I vomited blood three days ago while under the effects of alcohol. I don't remember the process, but according to those around me it was a dark blood red. Since then I dealt with the hangover and have been feeling light-headed. There are no signs of blood in my stool, and I haven't vomited since.

Hi,

Alcohol irritates the lining of the stomach and may cause vomiting as well as the presence of blood in the vomitus, though in this case I would have expected some blood to be present in the stool as well. Sometimes a fecal occult blood test is needed to detect the presence of trace amounts of blood in stools. The other possibility is that you may have injured your food pipe during forceful vomiting and this may have caused a little bleeding. Whatever the reason, please avoid alcohol and other gastric irritants for now. Take some antacids and avoid taking oily and spicy food. If the vomiting or bleeding recurs, then you must consult a doctor and get some investigations done.

Best wishes.
