Why Are These Blood Pressure Tablets Being Administered To An 83 Year Old?

my mother is 83 years old I am concerned about her prescribed medicines which are candesar, asprin, apo-doxazosin,apo amiodipine, metoprolol 100mg 3times a day, bezalip retard .... by reading her chart to me it looks as though she is being treated as a heart patient ..would there be a reason for all the blood pressure tabs ... she has had a minor stroke some years back but otherwise rather spritely

hello, welcome to healthcare magic,

the medicines you told are being administered to your mother along with their purpose are-

1.candesar- candesartan, drug for decreasing BP
2.aspirin- for blood thinning and preventing coagulation(for prevention of heart attack or stroke)
3.apo-doxazosin- another drug for decreasing BP
4.apo-amlodipine-another drug for decreasing BP
5.metoprolol- drug to decrease BP, and output from heart.
6.bezalip retard- prevent cholesterol levels from rising in body.

your mother must be very hypertensive, atleast jnc grade 3 or more, thats why your doctor is giving her so many medications. once her BP falls to normal, he probably will taper off the drugs.

hope it helps.
thank you
