Why Are Protein Levels In Urine Not Tested?

2 weeks ago my potassium level was 6.0, creatinine 1.1, and GFR 55. My Dr followed up these blood serum labs with a 24 hour creatine clearance urine test followed by repeated blood work. ( I was very careful in doing the urine test, with no errors in collection) My results showed potassium level of 4.3, creatinine 1.0 and GFR 61. I am glad to see the improvement. BUT I am confused by the results of my urine chemistry- My Creatine Clearance was flagged as low at 44. ( range is 88-128ml) ***Should I be concerned about that clearance result? Also I wonder why protein levels in the urine were not tested . I am a 54 yr old female, 5 ft tall 113 lbs . Should they have been?

Urologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i can understand your concern.
Your doctor has relied on the creatinine values, which are very sensitive.
They reflect kidney function quite accurately.
If you've swelling on your face or legs,or urine albumin or B.P.'s high, urine albumin-creatinine ratio or 24 hours urine protein, should be checked.
You can do it now and review with your doctor, to show the reports.
If you've any doubts, send the reports to me, as a direct question.
