Why Am I Unable To Urinate After Anterior Hip Replacement?

Hello, my 82 yr old father just had anterior hip replacement on right hip(one month ago) Since then has not been able to urinate due to lack of sensation in bladder. Also is very constipated. Numerous blood quality issues as well. Very active 82 yr old prior to surgery.

Hello
Thanks for query .
Your 82 years old father has undergone surgery of hip replacement very recently and since then he is unable to pass urine.

This is due to .enlarged Prostate which is very common and should have been evaluated before going ahead for hip replacement surgery .

Give him antibiotics along with alpha blockers like Tomsulosin once daily and
remove the catheter after 10 days and give him trial of voiding .

If he is still unable to pass urine he will will need to undergo surgery of TURP. to resect prostate and make his urethral passage clear so that he can void without any difficulty.,
