I broke up with my boyfriend last Thursday and since then have not been able to eat more than half of a meal or so each day. I was very upset the first couple of days but since then have been better. I try to eat but can only get a couple bites in and then feel like I may throw up. I weighed myself and I have already lost a few pounds. I know its probably normal for my situation but I am getting nervous because it has been almost a week and I feel weak and shaky now due to it. Do you have any suggestions?
In my practice, sometimes I see patients whose first symptom on facing a stressful situation is loss of appetite. Appetite can also be the last symptom to go away while recovering from depression. Since you are otherwise improving and feeling better, your appetite will also return. If the appetite doesn't start improving over the next fortnight, you may consult a doctor. Try going out for walks. Meet friends with whom you like spending time. Do things that you like and enjoy. Hope this answer is helpful.
