Why Am I Having Lot Of Gas After Eating?

Hello I have had bowel cancer and had my ileostomy reversed and colon reconnected. My main problem is that whatever I eat, I get quite a lot of wind/gas. I have tried active charcoal (no help). Also digestive enzymes, camolmile tea which boh gave me diarrhea and colon pains. Everything \i try seems to act as an unwanted laxative. Someone has mentioned buscopan for the pain I someimes get. I am afraid to try this as this may also have a laxative effect!

hi there
I am Dr Saumya Mittal
I will try to help you with your problem

I think what may have happened is that during your surgery, you might have been given several antibiotics. these are usually prescribed to avoid any unwanted infection.
However an antibiotic does not differentiate between the normal bacteria in the body and the pathogens. It kills them all

What happens when the normal bacteria are killed is that there is a lot of gaseous production due to the fermentation of food. These gases are usually used up by the bacteria. Since the bacteria are not there this gas may accumulate and cause pain

I would suggest you meet your doctor for a prescription of probiotics
And these may help you
I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.
