The white balls you are referring to may be the "dried cough". If you are having it for some time, please make sure you meet a doctor for antibiotics. This happens when you have a recurrent chest infection. This dried cough really smells horrible and you feel like doing a mouthwash everytime it comes out.

My daughter has the same problem. Her doctor told us she had a little "pocket" somewhere around her tonsil which was collecting small particles of food and junk and over time the pocket would fill up. My daughter has located the pocket and can, with a little gagging, remove the little white "ball" of stink (boy do they smell baaaaad!). The doctor said if it becomes too much of a nuisance for her we can have her tonsils removed. So far she just "cleans it out" every once in a while and has not opted for the surgery. The little pockets you are talking about are called Cryptic tonsils. I have them as well. They do catch food and yes it does smell foul. I found I can use a water pick on a low setting to dislodge the particals usually. I also found that they fill faster if I am sick. As with a sinus infection. It's gross but true.
I am a 40 and have had these my whole life. They were just discovered by a Dr. 5 years ago. Before that I was told I had chronic strep throat every time I was sick because of the "white spots" on my throat. Most of the time it was really a sinus infection drainage irritating my throat.
They are not harmful. And if you decide to try and have the tonsils "smoothed out " with a laser fyi they can still come back.
If they don't bother you don't bother them. Just keep them cleaned out.

I had those a lot. My dr gave me a scoop to clean the "tonsil stones" out with. After awhile I got tired of it. So, I opted for the removal. I have been way healthier ever since they took them out. I use to get sick A LOT. Was always having sinus infections, strep throats etc... Very rarely now and my energy level went through the roof. I would recommend having them removed rather than keep them. Warning though, it is painful. I was 25 at the time and it was miserable, temporary but well worth it.
