Which Type Of Lubricant Should Be Used During Catheter Insertion?

I am female who needs to insert a catheter into my bladder routinely for a few days. I did not receive guidance about what lubricant I should use - only that it must not be from petroleum. Will you recommend a lubricant. My husband bought pure glycerin from the drugstore. Is this OK to use? Thank you.

Hello,

As you require catheterization routinely, I will suggest you to use lignocaine Jelly as a lubricant.

Along with that you should know that frequent catheterization may cause urinary tract infection. So, during catheterization, you should always follow aseptic measures.

During this period, if you are suffering from fever and burning duration, then I will suggest you to follow here or consult with the physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale
