Which Diet To Be Followed For Melasma?

Good afternoon and Merry Christmas. This is a delight to be able to ask you about melasma. I have been suffering way too much over this. What will eating horseradish in my diet or papaya help at all?..Will you please let me know how to eat my way back to health? Give me any true insight you can. I appreciate your time.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

Melasma is brownish(light to dark) pigmentation over the sun exposed parts of the face (commonly affects nose and malar areas and sometimes also the upper lip, area just above the eyebrows and forehead too.)

Diet has no role whatsoever in either causing it OR for improving it.

The origin of melasma can be hormonal, drug induced(NSAIDs) but it is idiopathic most of the times.

Management of melasma consists of 2 major components:

>Sun protection with a borad spectrum sunscreen effective against both UVA and UVB.
>Demelanising creams containing one or more of the following ingredients:Hydroquinone, kojic acid, glycolic acid, arbutin, vit C etc in various combinations

I would advice that you visit a dermatologist who would suggest you a good broad spectrum sunscreen according to your skin type and a demelanising cream.

take care
