Where Should The Rabies Vaccination Be Taken?

Hi,
This is regarding the following instance that recently happened with my husband. Want to know an immediate cure for the same.

We were out to lonavala on a farmhouse on 18th oct where a dog scratched my husband while feeding a pet 8month old lab dog which according to them was vaccinated. However to be on a safer side we went to the doc on the next day 19th Oct and got a vaccination and a tetanus injection in the right and left "hip".
Post which we took the second dose on 22nd Oct on the hip and third one with a delay of 2 days on 29th Oct in the arm. On 29th Oct we took the vaccination from another doc and he suggested to take the injection in the arm and also informed us that vaccination taken in the hip is of no value.

We are now confused that whether we should start the vaccination again or not. Will there be any issue in future. No doctor is giving us a proper direction.

We need urgent help. Kindly take this matter immediately and help us with some direction at the earliest.

Thanks in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Welcome to HCM
Gone through your history , your pet is fully vaccinated.
In general if your pet is healthy after 10th day of bite/ scratched and you may discontinued your vaccine.
Post Exposure schedule for vaccination is 0, 3, 7,14 & 28 days( 0 is first dose and counted as 0 day) or
One dose of Rabipur is given into the right deltoid muscle and one dose into the left deltoid muscle on day 0, and one dose is applied into the deltoid muscle on days 7 and 21 (2-1-1 regimen). In small children the vaccine is to be given into the thighs.

The vaccine should be given by intramuscular injection into the deltoid muscle (In arm), or into the anterolateral region of the thigh in small children.
It must not be given by intra-gluteal ( Hip) injection.
Do not administer by intravascular injection. SO KINDLY TELL TO YOUR DOCTOR TO UPDATE ONCE INFORMATION ABOUT ADMINISTRATION OF INJECTIONS THAT HE/ SHE WILL NOT MAKE ANY MISTAKE AGAIN.
THANKS
