Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When Should Medication To Prevent Malaria Be Taken?
I m taking degranol three times a day and will soon be visiting the Kruger National Park. My doctor prescribed a malaria tablet to use for my stay at the Park. Question one: What time of the day will be the best to take the malaria tablet? Question two: Can one use alcohol while using the malaria tablet?
You should start the tablets 2 days before you travel and take them each day you're in a risk area, and for 4 weeks after you return. Take it in breakfast. There is no evidence that malaria tablets has interactions with alcohol but is better to not use because it may intensify side effects.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Blerina Pasho, General & Family Physician
