Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When Should An Aortic Valve Replacement Surgery Be Done?
I have recently had an echocardiogram and was told the flow is 1.1. My dr referred me to a hospital that does the aortic valve replacement. I was told by the surgeon that their policy is to treat with surgery only if it is 1.0 or below. Should I seek another hospital or what?
For most centers a cut-off value of 1 is agreed upon for Aortic valve replacement. I will suggest you seek another center ONLY if you are really troubled by the symptoms like shortness of breath, syncope, palpitations and even collapse provoked with exercise. In all these above conditions aortic valve replacement may be considered irrespective of the valve size and valve gradient. Hope it helped you. Have a good day.
