When Do The Side Effects Of Metformin Subside?

i am a type 2 diabetic and was recently put on metformin xr as i was experiencing sever stomach issues on regular metformin. I am carefully watching what i eat and in fact am probably not eating as much as i should be since every time i eat anything ...even if just a plain baked chicken breast , i get diarrehea and stomach pain, also feeling extremely tired and just having a hard time coping. My current doctor keeps telling me to hang in there and the side effects should ease.....how long does it take for my body to adjust as i am having difficulty coping with this

short answer: all the issues are common side effects of metformin if you have your fasting and postprandial blood sugar levels we can consider taking a different drug as an alternative to your metformin
detailed answer:
metformin usually a well tolerated drug, the common side effects of metformin is diarrhea and stomach pain. some can cope up with this. but very few get these side effects. compared to other anti diabetic medications side effect of metformin is relatively low. that is the reason your treating physician asked you to try and cope up with this. but if it is worrisome we can change it to another drug but with your fasting and postprandial levels. discuss with your treating physician about this hope this explains
