When I Drink Alcohol My Legs, Back Hurt. Feel Tired, Hot. Stops When Drinking Water. Lack Of Potassium?

Hello,
I don't normally drink alcohol, neither do I like the taste. It is just whenever I consume a small amount of alcohol my legs start to hurt and ache immediately, I'm not sure how to explain it but as if my legs are all of a sudden so sore and tired. I also feel very hot. The ache usually goes away after about 30 minutes when I stop drinking. Is there anything wrong with me? Some sources say that it is because if the lack of potassium but I'm not sure..
Thank you

Hello,
Thank you for the query. I have gone through your query and understood your concerns. After drinking alcohol everyone do have the symptoms you have mentioned due to dehydration and as you told there will be decreased potassium levels which will leads to muscle pains and tiredness. If you are really not good with it then you need to stop taking i which is the better advice I can give and for symptomatic relief you can take potassium rich foods like banana and drink more water to get rid from dehydration. Hope this information is helpful. Thank you.

Addiction Medicine Specialist Dr. Preeti Parakh's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms are due to the build up of lactic acid in the muscles of the body as alcohol interferes with lactic acid breakdown. Build up of lactic acid results in muscle soreness, burning sensation and pain. Since lactic acid is water soluble, drinking water provides relief.

So there is nothing wrong with you and you need worry. Just remain hydrated when you decide to take alcohol.

Hope this helps. Best wishes.
